Applewood is a premium retirement village built on 24 acresof beautifully maintained and landscaped gardens. It comprises 250 generouslyproportioned Independent Living Units (ILUs) in an ‘over and under’configuration, providing homes to a cohort of residents who enjoy the freedomand independence of living in a well-established, high-end retirementcommunity.

Applewood has been thoughtfully designed to offer a varietyof stunning and timeless homes, villas and apartments embracing an ethos of‘aging in place’ by encouraging a diverse mix of ages with the flexibility toadjust alongside residents as they age and their care requirements change.

The sloping site enabled our design to take full advantageof greater density across the site whilst ensuring that all entries remained atground level. This density also allowed us to maintain a huge number of maturetrees on the site and to introduce a lake and series of canals to thelandscape. These features provide purpose and aesthetic appeal that contributeto the wider community by channeling, capturing and filtering environmentalrunoff from surrounding land.

One of Applewood’s most celebrated features is its CommunityCentre. Both a literal and symbolic heart of the community and development, thecentre offers a central social space as well as housing a range of additionalamenities for residents and guests, including the Orchard Restaurant and Bar, apool, gymnasiums, library, business centre and a range of casual lounge andsocial areas.
