The primary goal when designing the new Learning Centre for St Joseph's Warragul, was to convert an under utilised library into a contemporary facility that would cater to Prep-aged students while supporting the school's progressive education philosophy.

Through a series of workshops with the school, the design team created a dynamic new teaching and learning environment that integrated recognisable elements from early learning settings. The refurbished facility provides active, flexible, and adaptable spaces that can support a range of activities and student needs within the same spatial volume.

To ensure that the new learning spaces foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, the design response prioritised flexibility and inclusivity. Defined and intimate learning zones within larger volumes create a series of distinct but flexible settings that encourage collaborative learning and visible outdoor connections.

The space is bright, colourful, and engaging, with a strong emphasis on play-based learning. The refurbished facility creates an active, welcoming arrival experience for students and their families while allowing staff to facilitate continuous, connected, and collaborative experiences for every child, further encouraging curiosity, creativity, and independence.

The new Learning Centre is a practical and pragmatic addition to the school that accommodates a range of activities while providing a visible representation of the school's intent to offer contemporary and accessible education facilities for all students. The project reflects Crosier Scott's extensive experience in education architecture, from preschool to tertiary education, and our commitment to providing innovative educational spaces that encourage open and collaborative learning.
